In August, the Foundation stepped into a different sort of community event, supporting the second annual HYROX on The Boulevard, hosted by ANNEX Gym at Uptown. Our contribution had three parts: sponsoring several police officer teams training toward the larger HYROX competition in Vancouver, staffing an information tent to talk about GVPF programs, and selling Outway socks with all proceeds benefitting to the Foundation.

With more than 100 competitors and heavy spectator traffic through Uptown, the event delivered what we wanted from a pilot: visibility in a setting where officers and residents shared the same start line, rather than meeting under difficult circumstances. Those informal moments are the groundwork that makes our youth programming possible.
We are treating the HYROX event as the first of several. The Foundation is actively looking for other positive, health-focused Greater Victoria events where we can show up and connect. If you are organizing something along those lines, we would like to hear from you – please reach out to GVPF Executive Director Samantha Krzywonos at info@gvpf.org.
