Police Camp 2025 Participants Selected

Police Camp 2025 Participants Selected

Since the 2023 re-launch of Police Camp, demand for this Greater Victoria Police Foundation program has grown significantly each year.

For Police Camp 2025, taking place at St. Margaret’s School in Saanich March 15-22, we received 165 applications for 50 spots. The quality of the applications was truly remarkable, and the effort demonstrated by each applicant was striking. In addition to completing a robust application package, each applicant underwent an interview with the Director of Police Camp, retired Saanich Police officer Kim Basi, and their school’s guidance counsellor.

Interviews were completed in early January and all applicants have been notified of their status. Those selected will attend an orientation night in late February at Claremont School.

As in past years, Kim and her team have put together an exciting and challenging program. We have heard from past participants and parents that the program is life-changing, and we expect the same this year.

Police Camp would not be possible without the volunteer police officers from Saanich, Central Saanich, Oak Bay and Victoria and Esquimalt Police Departments, as well as the RCMP Westshore. In addition, the Canada Border Services Agency provides a thrilling day on the water with the CBSA’s marine vessels and agents.

Like all GVPF programs, Police Camp is funded entirely through the generosity of donors including:

  • KPMG Foundation
  • RBC Foundation
  • Telus Friendly Future Foundation
  • St. Margaret’s School
  • numerous individual supporters

Saying ‘thank you’ is not enough to acknowledge these extraordinary organizations and donors who believe, as we do, that resilient youth and positive relationships with the police are the key to strong, vital communities.

We recognize that there is significant demand for Police Camp and other programs that support youth and connect them to police officers and the myriad of skills and experiences that are at the core of public safety and community leadership. To that end, we are excited to announce that our newest program, Junior Police Camp, is now accepting applications! See https://gvpf.org/programs/junior-police-camp/ to read more about this program, and to apply. Space is limited to 30 campers and we expect them to fill quickly.
